Air Quality Monitoring Stations in Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. contains numerous air quality monitoring stations that help get a representative view of the air residents are breathing. Information on the air monitoring stations such as location and data measured were sourced from OpenAQ.

The District Department of Energy and Environment (DDOE) operates five of these stations and their locations are based on population density and distribution as well as historical concentrations of pollutants. The monitoring station data are crucial for complying with the EPA’s national ambient air quality standards. Some of the measurements include PM2.5, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide.
