For over 30 years, Glen Jaross has been involved in the radiometric characterization of spaceborne sensors used in the monitoring of atmospheric constituents such as ozone, aerosols, and trace gases. His work is foundational to reliable satellite data sets that we at NASA Goddard make available to the science community and to the public at large.

Glen’s work ensures that scientists around the world work with data sets that can be confidently and accurately used to infer the true geophysical nature of important atmospheric constituents. In addition to his work on the pre-launch calibration, Glen Jaross has pioneered techniques for assessing and validating the sensors’ post-launch evolving radiometric calibration. Glen’s expertise in sensor inter-calibration, long-term sensor changes and characterization over decadal time scales has contributed, along with the work of algorithm developers and other scientists, to the creation and maintenance of the over four decades long total ozone record that is Goddard’s longest satellite data set of an atmospheric component.
